Amy's story

Cardboard Side 1:  Barry lost his job....I was worried & afraid

When my husband lost his job unexpectedly a few years ago, I was very worried and scared as we had a huge mortgage to pay and tuition to pay for three children in private school and college.  But during that time of my husband being unemployed, we were both reading through the Old Testament.  What we were reading actually coincided with what we were going through - you know...the time where the Israelites were wandering through the desert for 40 years.  God demonstrated to us that He would provide us our daily Manna as well.... we would receive numerous gifts from random people, who felt the Lord prompting them to give us things - things such as a Christmas tree at Christmas, a Turkey, a Costco gift card - the list goes on and on and on.  The neatest thing is the timing in which these gifts were given... just at the right time.  All we could think of was

how great God is and that HE is our Provider - we really didn't have to worry.  HE prompted the family of believers to give when He knew we needed to receive, their obedience was answered prayers to our needs, spoken and unspoken.  God also showed us that our trust shouldn't be in our Storehouses (bank accounts, income, etc.) - all of that can be gone in a flash.  Our trust needs to be in the Lord to provide our needs daily. We learned that we needed to be willing to give everything up to God and put Him high above our material possessions. I used to think that we needed a huge nest egg to take care of us in our retirement and also so we could leave lots of money to our kids.  But I learned that God will take care of us when we retire, not our money, and I also learned that the best thing we could leave for our kids when we die is the knowledge of who God is and that they can trust the Lord in all circumstances.  HE is our Provider! After 40 days of wandering, God provided my husband with a job, but more than that, He provided us with a stronger faith in Him, and peace and security that comes through trusting Him. But just like the Israelites, who quickly forgot the great things God was doing for them, we too forget and start to worry. Then He reminds me to remember our time wandering in the desert and how he provided for our every need, and that He will continue to provide for us daily.  We learned and are still learning to store up treasures in Heaven and not here on earth.

Thanks for letting me share.  God is GOOD!
